Understanding the Problem
The navel is the point where the abdominal wall, its connective tissue and the ligaments that suspend the intestines all meet. When the abdominal muscles fatigue into spasm they pull on the linea alba and the navel, distribute pressure unevenly through the abdomen, and disturb the movement of the intestines beneath. When the intestines themselves fatigue from moving hard-to-process material, dense proteins and insoluble fibre, they spasm too, and peristalsis stalls at that point. Pain around the navel, bloating, constipation and irregular bowel movement are the result. Releasology releases the navel complex directly, restoring even pressure through the abdomen and the movement of the gut.
What this release relieves
- Constipation and irregular bowel movement. A section of intestine in spasm is a blockage in the flow. Releasing it lets peristalsis continue, and clients describe regularity returning.
- Bloating and abdominal pressure. Pressure builds behind a stalled section of gut and under a tight abdominal wall. Both release together.
- Pain around the navel and indigestion. The ache or catch around the umbilicus is the connective tissue and gut being pulled on. It eases as the tension comes off.
- Core instability. A core in spasm is not a strong core; it is a locked one. Released, the abdominal wall can engage and release as it should.
- Changes in abdominal shape and tone. Uneven tension distorts the abdominal wall. Clients notice the abdomen settling flatter and more even as the pattern releases.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a massage of the stomach?
It is a precise release of the abdominal wall and the connective tissue around the navel, and of the sections of intestine that have gone into spasm. It is specific, not a general rub.
I eat well and still get constipated. Why?
Fibre and water keep material moving only if the intestine itself can move it. A spasmed section of gut stalls the flow regardless of diet. The release addresses the spasm.
How is this different from the diaphragm release?
The diaphragm (Modality 10) sits above the organs and affects reflux, breathing and the liver and spleen. The navel complex is the abdominal wall and gut below it: constipation, bloating and pressure around the navel.

The Clinical Problem

the smooth muscle tissue of the small intestine and spasm of the abdominal muscles will cause pain and blockage of the intestines around the navel.
They may also report indigestion, irregular bowel movement, or visible changes in the shape and firmness of the abdomen.
Despite dietary adjustments and general abdominal massage, the symptoms often persist.
In many cases the underlying cause lies not only in the abdominal wall but also in the muscular activity of the intestines themselves.
The walls of the intestines are composed of three layers of smooth muscle that work together to move food through the digestive tract using rhythmic contractions called peristalsis.
When the intestinal muscles encounter material that is difficult to move — such as dense proteins or certain insoluble fibers — the muscles may work harder in an attempt to push the contents forward.
Like any muscle, when they become fatigued from sustained effort, they can enter spasm.
When this occurs, a segment of intestine may tighten around the material instead of moving it forward. This creates a localized obstruction in the digestive wave and can lead to discomfort, inflammation, and irregular bowel movement.
As the intestine tightens and twists, tension is transmitted through the ligaments that suspend the intestines and anchor them to the spine and abdominal wall.
At the same time, the abdominal muscles themselves attach to the linea alba, the connective tissue structure that runs down the center of the abdomen and connects directly to the navel.
When the abdominal muscles enter spasm, they exert tension on the linea alba and navel, adding further pressure to the abdominal contents.
The combination of intestinal spasm and abdominal wall tension can create a twisting effect within the abdominal cavity. This tension may pull on the ligaments that stabilize the intestines and transmit strain toward the vertebral column and surrounding structures.
These forces can contribute to:
• constipation
• indigestion
• abdominal pressure or bloating
• pain around the navel
• visible distortion of abdominal tone
The Releasology navel release technique works through the abdominal wall using the Yang–Yin cycle to gently decompress both the abdominal muscles and the intestinal segments beneath them.
As the abdominal tissues soften and the intestinal segments release from spasm, normal peristaltic movement can resume and tension through the connective tissues of the abdomen can diminish.

The navel sits at the center of the abdominal system and reflects how pressure, movement, and internal structures are coordinated.

When the system is functioning properly:

• breathing transfers force downward
• the abdominal contents move freely
When dysfunction develops:

Intestinal Mechanics (Clinical Observation)
The small intestine is suspended within the abdomen by connective structures that guide and support its position.
It is not loose or random.
It is organized, supported, and able to move within a controlled space.
Like an earthworm, the intestine is capable of:
• elongating
• contracting
• creating wave-like motion
This is peristalsis.
When functioning properly:
• movement is smooth
• segments contract and release in sequence
• contents move efficiently
Fatigue and Spasm
When the system encounters resistance:
• peristalsis becomes effortful
• segments begin to fatigue
• localized contraction increases
Over time:
